In a nutshell, what is ExactEmail?
ExactEmail (EE) allows you to assign a simple keyword (or phone number) to your email or a long website address allowing you to easily communicate it both verbally and in print. The recipient of this information can type the keyword into ExactEmail.com, and the corresponding email or web address will appear allowing the recipient to send an email or go to the website.

ExactEmail is targeted toward two types of Internet users:
  1. Individuals who wish to assign their email address(es) to a keyword or even their phone number so they can easily communicate their contact information when talking with individuals in person or over the phone.
  2. Newspapers, magazine publishers, and other companies that wish to replace long and unruly printed website addresses with short keywords that are easier for readers to remember. These keywords can also be “monetized”, meaning that they will display an advertisement on the web landing page, providing publishers an additional advertising revenue stream.

To enhance the security of this service, the user can choose to add passwords to the keywords so that only those people armed with your keyword and password can access this information. For more on security, view the "Security" section below.

This is a membership-based service, so it only contains keywords and email/web addresses of registered users. This is not a service that scours the entire Internet finding phone numbers and corresponding email/web addresses.

Examples of How it Can be Used
The following are two examples of how this service can be used:

  1. Suppose you are on the phone with someone, and you want to give them your email address. Instead of spelling it out, you can say the following:

“Contact me using my EE phone number of 413.560.1000”

That person is then able to type this phone number into the ExactEmail website and retrieve your email address.

  2. ExactEmail can also be used to direct people to web sites with long URLs that are difficult to communicate or retype. Suppose you want tell a friend about a web-based article about cooking that you saw on your favorite news website. You can say the following:

“To view the article, type my EE phone number of 413.560.1000, Extension: Cooking”.

In the example above, we used an “extension”. Each of your main keywords (or phone numbers) can contain an unlimited number of extensions (like phone extensions), so that you can assign different email or web addresses to each.
Is it secure?
With so many forms of online transgressions occurring, security is a big concern. There are a number of ways the service is set up to protect users from these security violations:
  1. Users are required to create a login name and password to sign up and maintain their account.

  2. Important contact information is transmitted from the user’s website using SSL encryption and is also encrypted in our database once it arrives.

  3. When a person wants to email somebody using the person’s keyword, they must first come to the ExactEmail website. Here they can enter the keyword, extension, and/or password. However, they must also enter a “jumbled” security code that is displayed below the keyword input. It looks similar to this:

The purpose of this is to prevent automated software programs typing in many keywords, and getting all the corresponding email addresses. This code (and its corresponding graphical chaos) cannot be “seen” by automated spammers. Only the human eye can register the code above.

See the home page for a real-time example of this.

  4. Every user who signs up for the service will be able to assign extensions to their keyword (i.e. – 415-555-1212 x100). Each extension can represent an email or web address. Only people who know this extension will be able to access your email or web address information. As an added level of security, the user can also assign “passwords” to each of their keywords and extensions.

  5. All important data such as login email and password information is encrypted in our database using the latest encryption algorithms. Therefore, in the very unlikely event that somebody was able to compromise our servers, the data would be worthless to them.

  6. We will never give out any information that you submit to our site to third-party companies. The success of this site is based upon you trusting us with your important email information. Therefore, we will not violate that trust in any way.
What are the different membership levels?
There are 2 levels of membership available at ExactEmail:
  1. Personal Membership: This membership level is appropriate for individuals who want to assign their phone number or keywords to email and web addresses.
  2. Business Membership: This membership level is appropriate for magazines, newspaper publishers, and other companies that wish to assign long and unruly printed web addresses to simple keywords. This differs from the personal membership, because it displays banner ads on the landing page after a keyword is typed allowing business members to earn advertising revenue.
To downgrade or cancel a paid membership, please contact us and specify your login information and details about what you wish to do.
